Course Improvement Project - Phase 2

As Phase 2 nears completion here are a selection of photos of each of our 22 new bunkers, complete with Capillary Concrete and awaiting sand.

What happened previously...
Last year (2018) saw the start of an exciting new project for Mortonhall – the modernisation and reduction of our 59 bunkers to 44. The positioning of many of our bunkers had been rendered irrelevant by modern technology and the bunkers themselves needed extensive work. Phase 1 of our course improvement works began in mid-September 2018 and holes 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 16, 17 and 18 plus some work on a green side bunker on 15 was completed by the end of November 2018. By March 2019 the full course was back in full play. In all that period there were 18 holes of play available at all times for our golfers

Phase 2 of our project began on 16th September 2019 and our contractor Golflink have returned to complete the work they started last year, with the same enthusiasm and expertise that they showed last time. Holes 4, 5, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and a fairway bunker of 15 are currently being worked on.

Here is a selection of photos of work in progress from the less than 7 weeks work, to show how the bunkers evolved, from the initial cutting of the turf, shaping, laying of Capillary Concrete and then the final relaying of turf.

We have a full course of 18 holes in play, albeit with some changes in distance and direction from the usual course. We welcome any questions or comments so please send them to cip@mortonhallgc.co.uk
